Time to read with a newborn

So like most women I have been trying to balance being a mother, a wife, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a cook and a cleaner with my love of books.  Unfortunately reading and blogging have had to take a backseat for the time being.  I have found myself on the odd occasion, when my little boy is asleep, taking a bit of ME time and just relaxing and reading a book.  The washing/dishes/vacuuming will still be there later afterall.

I am currently re-reading The House of Night series.  I started reading this series back in 2012 and really enjoyed it. Between now and then, the Author has finished the series and there are a few books I haven’t yet read. Usually, I would read a 13 book series like this  in a month or two, now with bubs I think it may take me until the end of the year haha.

I am the type that will not just read the new release, I will always re-read the whole series.  Does anyone else do this?

 

 

REVIEW: The Carnelian Legacy (Carnelian Book #1)

Amazing Book! I fell in love within the first few chapters!

I absolutely loved the Authors’ writing style!  She is incredibly talented and writes in such an eloquent way, it makes everything come alive in vivid detail. I felt as if the world she built became real.  Cheryl’s style of writing is what I aspire to achieve!

After the death of her father, seventeen-year-old Marisa’s life is on the verge of imploding.  Her brother and Uncle is all she has left.  She seeks a few minutes peace after attending her father’s funeral and heads out on horseback through the woods of Gold Hill, when a mysterious lightning storm strikes. Marisa finds herself hurled into a different dimension with only the clothes on her back and her horse.

Once she finds herself in the land of Carnelia she is discovered by Darian and his cousin, Arrigo. It’s obvious to them that she needs their help, so they take her under their protection in order to get her back home.

REVIEW: The End of Night

It was okay. It is not my normal style of book and I only started reading it as a friend recommended it to me.

I found myself frustrated with the overly descriptive and repetitive nature of the writing and felt that half of almost every chapter could have been removed and wouldn’t have been missed.

The concept of this book is fantastic and the author obviously put in a lot of research on the subject.  It seemed to be aimed at ‘everyday society’ and not academics or astrologers, I believe the author did a great job of not over complicating the scientific aspects. His creative non-fiction style of writing made it easy to read and I liked that he referenced to the sources of his data.

This book for me, was similar to reading an extraordinarily long newspaper article, no matter how interesting the subject matter.

It opened my eyes to what artificial light is doing to the night sky, but was not really my cup of tea. However for someone who is more interested in non-fiction books this would probably be a great read.

REVIEW: Destiny Kills (Myth & Magic Book #1)

I enjoyed this book, it was a quick and easy read, had a great concept but maybe needed a few parts of it expanded a little.

Destiny woke up on an Oregon beach beside a dead man with little memory of who she is or why she is there.  All she knows is that she needs to wait for dawn to perform a ceremony to dispose of his body.  She also knows that she needs to keep moving and needs to get to Maine.

Once Egan’s body is disposed of in the dawn ceremony, Destiny takes off and ends up playing chicken with Trae, who is Egan’s brother. Trae is a thief with a sexy, knowing grin and a secret agenda of his own.

By the second or third chapter it becomes known to Destiny that she is a Sea Dragon who managed to escape from a lab in Scotland who kept her captive for over 10 years with her mother, Egan and a bunch of children.

Spring!

It’s Spring here in Western Australia and it is so lovely to be able to sit outside and soak up the sun whilst reading a book! The temperatures are already reaching 26 degrees (78.8 Fahrenheit). Summer is coming along swift as ever 🙂

REVIEW: THE RELUCTANT SACRIFICE

This was a spectacular read!

This was an effortless read that I just couldn’t put down, every chapter had me on the edge of my seat wanting more. I was immersed in every part of this book, I loved reading about the present circumstances, and then being thrown back into the past in Aubrey’s dreams to gain insight about what lead them to where they are now.

Thrilling to the very end! The Reluctant Sacrifice

Just finished reading this amazing book! Once I started it this morning, I literally couldnt put it down! I will write a full review tomorrow, but in the mean time, I honestly couldn’t recommend this book enough! The author, Kerr-Ann sent me an ARC of this book for an honest review. Best book I have read in a while 🙂
